✨From Set Life to Sweet Life: My Hollywood Bakery Twist ✨
If you’ve been following along my baking journey, you probably know me as the cinnamon roll gal, the one bringing sugar, spice, and everything nice to markets and custom orders. But what most don’t know is that by day, I work in the world of lights, cameras, and touch-ups — I’m a professional makeup artist in Hollywood.
Surprise!
For the past season, I’ve had the absolute joy of working on the new hit comedy St. Denis Medical, doing makeup magic behind the scenes. And in the most unexpected (but totally on-brand) plot twist, my two worlds — makeup and baking — collided in the sweetest way.
It all started with a joke. I was chatting about my cottage home bakery with coworkers on set, and someone threw out, “You should bring your stuff in for crafty!” (Crafty = craft services, the glorious snack table of any production.) But my co-workers weren’t joking. They started raving about my baked goods and even began putting in the good word to Amy (shoutout to Amy, our craft services queen) to officially feature my stuff.
Fast-forward to the end of the season — plot twist — my Mini Cinny made it into crafty! And they weren’t just a hit. They were a “people-asking-for-seconds, what-is-this-recipe, cinnamon-scented-happy-dance” kind of hit.
And then came the ultimate full-circle moment I was asked to bake a birthday cake for Mekki Leeper, who plays Matt on the show!
Actors Allison Tolman, who plays Alex and Josh Lawson who plays Bruce on the show, came up with the message written in the frosting: "Happy Birthday Mekki, From Work."
It was a nod to Mekki’s character, Matt — the type of dry humor fans of St. Denis Medical will immediately appreciate.
And because the best creations happen with a little help, my wonderful coworker Laura jumped in to help decorate it. We had frosting-covered hands, last-minute icing tweaks, and the giddy energy of pulling off something meaningful and funny together.
The cake was a hit, and watching everyone enjoy it — cast, crew, Mekki himself — was genuinely one of the highlights of my season.
And just when I thought that would be the big finale...
Black Velvet with cookies & cream filling half-sheet cake
Amy moved on to work on Ted, the hit series by Seth MacFarlane — and commissioned me to bake Seth’s birthday cake.
Yep. That Seth MacFarlane.
She trusted me to make something special, and I got to work. The result? A rich black velvet cake with cookies & cream filling — sleek, striking, and sweet. A cake worthy of an icon, baked in my cozy home kitchen.
Baking and makeup might seem like two totally different worlds — but both are about creativity, detail, and making people feel good. Whether it’s behind the scenes on a hit comedy or in my kitchen whipping up a cake, I’m just happy to bring a little joy to people’s lives.
✨The Sweet Takeaway:
Whether I’m on set with a brush or in the kitchen with a whisk, it’s all about connection, creativity, and showing up with a big heart π (and sugar).
From blending makeup to blending cake batter, I’m grateful I get to do both — and that somehow, the two worlds are now frosted together.
So next time you see St. Denis Medical, just know: behind the laughter, behind the eyeliner… there’s probably a cinnamon roll too.
